Las Vegas, NV – A Freeze Watch has been issued for late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning as the first subfreezing temperatures of the season are expected to reach parts of southern Nye County and far western Clark County, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Las Vegas. Areas including Pahrump and Amargosa Valley may see morning lows drop between 30 and 32 degrees.
According to the NWS, the coldest temperatures are expected just before sunrise Wednesday, with clear skies and light winds allowing heat to escape quickly overnight. These conditions mark a significant shift from the mild November temperatures the region has seen so far, and could lead to damage to sensitive vegetation, outdoor plumbing, and unprotected irrigation systems.
Residents in affected areas are encouraged to take precautionary steps ahead of the freeze. The NWS advises turning off and draining sprinkler systems, covering or bringing in sensitive plants, and ensuring pets are sheltered indoors overnight. Local growers and hobby gardeners should be especially cautious, as a freeze of this magnitude could harm citrus trees, potted plants, and other cold-vulnerable species.
While central Las Vegas and much of the metro are not currently included in the freeze watch, temperatures will still dip into the 30s across the valley. Forecasters note that final freeze warnings may be issued if cold air settles more widely than expected.
Those traveling overnight or early Wednesday should prepare for the sudden shift in temperatures and remain aware of localized frost, particularly in low-lying desert areas.
