Las Vegas, Nevada – Heavy mountain snow could create hazardous travel late Tuesday and overnight across Southern Nevada and nearby states.

According to the US National Weather Service in Las Vegas, a strong and cold storm system will move through the region, impacting popular travel routes through tonight and into Wednesday morning. Snow levels and accumulation will vary by elevation, with the greatest impacts expected in higher terrain.

Snow probability graphics show a 100% chance of more than 3 inches in Kyle Canyon, Nevada, with a 70% chance of exceeding 12 inches and a 30% chance of topping 18 inches by 10 a.m. PST Wednesday. Mountain Springs, Nevada, has a 90% probability of at least 3 inches and a 50% chance of exceeding 6 inches.

Mountain Pass along Interstate 15 near the California border shows a 90% chance of at least 3 inches, while Interstate 40 near Fort Rock, Arizona, has a 50% probability of more than 3 inches. Bishop, California, has a 40% chance of exceeding 3 inches.

Travel impacts are expected along I-15 near Mountain Pass, US-95 north of Las Vegas, NV-160 toward Pahrump, and I-40 in northwest Arizona. Road conditions may deteriorate rapidly in heavier snow bands.
