Las Vegas, NV – A Wind Advisory is in effect today across parts of southern Nevada and nearby California, with gusty conditions expected to impact travel and outdoor activities. The National Weather Service warns that southwest winds could reach speeds of 40 to 50 mph in the Spring Mountains, Red Rock Canyon, and parts of San Bernardino County.
According to the US National Weather Service Las Vegas, winds will range from 15 to 30 mph in lower elevations, gusting up to 45 mph, while mountain areas could see stronger gusts reaching 50 mph. The advisory covers the Western Mojave Desert until 11 p.m. Friday, with extended advisories for the Eastern Mojave Desert and Morongo Basin lasting through 2 a.m. Saturday.
Forecasters note that temperatures will also be slightly cooler, with highs dropping about five degrees compared to Thursday. Drivers, particularly those operating high-profile vehicles, are urged to use caution on highways including I-15, US-95, and US-395 where blowing dust and crosswinds could create dangerous conditions.
Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, decorations, or trash bins that may be blown around in the strong winds.
This Wind Advisory highlights the potential for hazardous driving conditions, reduced visibility in blowing dust, and delays for those traveling through mountain passes and desert routes today.
