LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Southern Nevada faces a stretch of rising heat beginning Sunday, September 14, as Las Vegas climbs back into the mid-to-upper 90s. Commuters on I-15 and U.S. 95 should prepare for afternoon glare and road surface heat, especially during peak travel times. Hydration and sun protection remain critical for anyone outdoors.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday will reach 95°F under sunny skies with light winds. Monday and Tuesday will heat further, topping out at 95°F and 97°F, before peaking near 98°F on Wednesday. Nighttime temperatures stay warm, hovering in the low-to-mid 70s, offering little overnight relief.

Outdoor workers, athletes, and travelers are most at risk during afternoon hours, when pavement can exceed 120°F. Officials advise residents to avoid strenuous activity between noon and 5 p.m. Drivers should keep extra water in their vehicles and check cooling systems before long trips across the desert.

Clear skies dominate through midweek, but by Thursday, chances of showers and thunderstorms return. Any rainfall could bring sudden slick conditions to highways and low-lying areas. Until then, dry air and unrelenting sun remain the biggest hazards.

The current pattern extends a hot and dry stretch typical of early fall in southern Nevada, with no major cooling trend until late next week. Warnings may be updated if storm chances increase.
