Las Vegas, Nevada – Residents across Southern Nevada must prepare for another day of extreme heat. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect until 10 PM PDT on Thursday, June 19. Temperatures could reach a dangerous 115 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas, dangerously hot conditions are expected. These temperatures pose a significant risk for heat-related illnesses. Overnight low temperatures offer little relief, remaining abnormally high. This prevents the body from recovering from daytime heat.
The NWS urges residents to take precautions. Drink plenty of fluids, even if you do not feel thirsty. Stay in an air-conditioned room as much as possible. Check on relatives and neighbors. Never leave young children or pets unattended in vehicles. Car interiors can reach lethal temperatures quickly.
Limit outdoor activity. Reschedule strenuous work or exercise for early morning or late evening. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends frequent breaks in cool, shaded areas. Overcome by heat should seek medical attention immediately. Call 911.
The extreme heat warning affects Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, and the Northwest Deserts. Death Valley National Park and parts of Arizona and California are also under this warning. Conditions are similar to past heatwaves in the region, demanding vigilance.
Monitor the latest forecasts for updates. The warning remains in effect through Thursday evening. More advisories may follow.
