Las Vegas, NV – A confrontation within an apartment complex on South Las Vegas Boulevard led to K9 officer Enzo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) being critically injured. The standoff, which took place Friday, saw Enzo courageously intervene during a volatile situation involving a suicidal man armed with a knife.
LVMPD’s account details how officers, responding to a report of a suicidal individual at approximately 1:08 p.m., faced a barricade situation. It quickly escalated when the man reportedly started a fire inside the apartment and later emerged wielding a knife. Enzo closed in on the suspect, who then attacked and stabbed the dog multiple times.
Despite his severe injuries, Enzo was rushed to a veterinary hospital for emergency care. The three-year-old Belgian Malinois, who has served with LVMPD’s K9 unit for a year, remained in intensive care overnight and has now been reported to be in stable condition, with expectations for a full recovery.
