LAS VEGAS – Local businesses and residents are preparing for the upcoming Formula One Las Vegas Grand Prix, which is expected to draw thousands.

The 2025 race will take place Nov. 20–22 along the Las Vegas Strip. Last year’s  event drew about 306,000 people over the weekend, and this year the influx of tourists is welcome.

Tourism nationwide  has faced a significant decline, and Las Vegas has also recorded fewer visitors. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), the city saw a  12% decline in visitors compared with the previous year.

While the city welcomes the expected economic boost, balancing tourism gains with community concerns remains a challenge after the controversial 2023 debut. Following the 2024 race, a group of businesses petitioned to end the event,  saying they lost $30 million due to disruptions caused by traffic congestion.

One of the biggest complaints from residents has been commuter delays and road closures. With major hotel groups partnering with F1, ensuring visitors can reach their accommodations smoothly is a top priority.

To prepare for the expected traffic strain, the city has begun roadwork with nightly lane reductions, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to minimize the impact on locals and businesses.

Formula One officials said community involvement is central to the event, pointing to the Extraordinary Locals program launched in 2024. The initiative was designed  to “address social issues, foster economic diversity, and increase community engagement, creating a more inclusive, supportive, and vibrant local society.”

Last year, several small businesses were recognized and awarded through the program, highlighting efforts to emphasize  the local community during an international sporting event.
