LAS VEGAS — Following the holiday period, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department released year-end crime data outlining trends across Clark County heading into the new year.

The LVMPD’s crime report for the final week of 2025 revealed that homicide, kidnapping, and aggravated assault offenses have decreased compared to the previous years. Property crimes like robbery, arson, and larceny have also decreased. Weapon law violations and police shootings have also decreased in 2025. The department shared that police recorded 17 shootings in 2024 and seven in 2025.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill predicts that this trend of decreasing police shootings and other decreases in major crime will continue through 2026. He said,” These are going to be historic low numbers we haven’t seen, not in my 35 years.”

Despite the declines, sex offenses remain elevated, according to the department. McMahill shared that this is an area of improvement in the new year.

“I believe that we can impact these through leadership and through wellness. When they make choices to commit a crime, they have to be held accountable.”

McMahill said the department will continue to prioritize crime reduction and community safety in 2026.

“We’re going to continue to drop crime dramatically here, and I’m going to continue to take care of my cops better than we ever have.”
