LAS VEGAS – The city is stepping up efforts to prevent crime, and recent data shows the impact.
According to statistics from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, crime is down overall in 2025. Violent crimes like homicide have decreased by over 30% while auto theft and property crimes have also decreased by 14%.
These positive trends follow the city’s community-focused initiatives, including the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area in the Rafael Rivera neighborhood. The program, launched after a 2022 survey, was designed to address the neighborhood’s needs and improve quality of life.
Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, who represents Ward 3, reflected on the program’s success in July 2025, telling FOX 5:
“I‘m happy to say that in six years we added the East Las Vegas Family Park and Arroyo Vista Park as well, which is an equestrian theme park for its very close proximity to horse-zoned properties.”
Diaz emphasized that her office continues to evolve with the community’s needs, particularly around safety. “We’ve been trying to tackle, how do we make our streets safer for our kids, who are in a certain zone and there are multiple schools,” she said.
Beyond revitalization efforts, the city has implemented other initiatives such as Listos y Seguros (Ready & Safe) to promote public security. The Citizens’ Police Academy also gives residents the opportunity to learn more about law enforcement and LVMPD operations.
Additionally, many local groups collaborate with the National Neighborhood Watch (NNW) to prevent crime, report violations, and work alongside the NLVPD.
