Larimer County, CO – An early-morning traffic stop in Berthoud turned into a high-speed pursuit and officer-involved shooting today, leaving both a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy and the driver with minor injuries. The incident occurred around 2:32 a.m. near Grand Market Avenue and TPC Parkway, just east of I-25.

According to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy attempted a traffic stop when the driver allegedly refused to comply and sped away. The pursuit continued until the deputy used a PIT maneuver on Highway 60, causing the vehicle to stop just east of the interstate.

Investigators say the suspect then accelerated toward the deputy, prompting the deputy to fire his service weapon. The deputy suffered minor injuries during the encounter and was treated and released from a nearby hospital.

The suspect also sustained minor injuries, was treated at an area hospital, and then taken into custody. An adult passenger inside the suspect’s vehicle was not injured, authorities said.

The Eighth Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was activated to handle the investigation. Fort Collins Police Services has taken the lead, and officials say additional details—including any pending charges—will be released by that agency as the investigation progresses.

Residents traveling near Highway 60 and I-25 may notice an increased law-enforcement presence today as investigators continue collecting evidence.
