Cheyenne, Wyo. – Strong thunderstorms are expected to impact parts of eastern Wyoming through 9 p.m. Sunday, with hail and damaging wind possible across six counties, including Laramie and Goshen.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 479 remains in effect until 9 p.m. MDT for Crook, Goshen, Laramie, Niobrara, Platte, and Weston counties. The main threats include 60 mph wind gusts, frequent lightning, and quarter-sized hail.

Localized downpours may lead to brief flooding, especially along U.S. Highway 85 and I-25 corridors. Outdoor activities and travel should be delayed, particularly in rural stretches where shelter is limited. Emergency managers recommend securing loose items and remaining indoors during storm periods.

This watch includes the Cheyenne, Torrington, and Douglas areas, with storms likely to track east toward the South Dakota and Nebraska borders. The timing aligns with peak heating, increasing the potential for storm intensification.

Additional warnings may follow as the system develops. Residents are urged to monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts.
