Lansing, IL – Authorities have identified a 17-year-old Lansing resident who died early Sunday following a shooting on the village’s south side.

According to the Lake County, IN Coroner’s Office, Ross Anthony Whitt was pronounced dead at Munster Community Hospital after suffering gunshot wounds. Officials say the incident occurred around 2813 189th Street in Lansing at approximately 12:47 a.m. Sunday, October 26.

The coroner confirmed Whitt’s death was ruled a homicide. A forensic autopsy is scheduled for Monday, October 27, at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point, Indiana.

Lansing Police and Lansing EMS responded to the scene, and the Lake County Medicolegal Death Investigation team was dispatched shortly after the incident.
