Eugene, OR – Lane County deputies arrested 12 drivers for DUII over the past week, responding to multiple impaired-driving crashes across the area, according to a release from the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said four of the arrests stemmed from serious single-vehicle crashes that could have ended in tragedy. The Sheriff’s Office noted it does not have a dedicated DUI enforcement unit due to funding, but deputies remain committed to roadway safety.
According to the department, incidents occurred between Nov. 18 and Nov. 23 across Eugene, Veneta, Springfield, Cottage Grove, and surrounding rural areas. Deputies described several drivers as “highly impaired,” with one driver allegedly attempting to switch seats after crashing into another vehicle near the Sheriff’s Office in downtown Eugene.
Other cases involved a driver allegedly kicking a deputy during an arrest in Veneta and another crash that damaged mailboxes and railroad tracks near Cottage Grove. Deputies also reported finding methamphetamine in one vehicle.
Authorities are urging drivers to plan safe rides home, avoid driving under the influence, and ensure party guests have sober transportation during the holiday season.
“Each of these cases could have ended tragically,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “Please drive safe this holiday season.”
