Eugene, OR – A man was arrested early Monday after Lane County deputies responded to a shots-fired dispute near McCredie Hot Springs and later located a suspect vehicle traveling on Highway 58, officials said.
According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were investigating the report around 2 a.m. on December 9 when a witness in Oakridge identified a vehicle linked to the disturbance. When deputies initiated a traffic stop, the driver allegedly fled, leading to a brief pursuit before stopping in a private driveway.
Deputies said the driver, a 44-year-old Riddle man, was uncooperative but detained without further incident. A passenger in the vehicle cooperated with authorities. The residence where the man stopped was unrelated to the investigation.
During the stop, deputies reported seeing a revolver on the seat. A subsequent search uncovered two additional firearms, both allegedly equipped with homemade suppressors, along with methamphetamine and other evidence.
According to the sheriff’s office, the man — a felon — was arrested and booked into the Lane County Jail on multiple charges, including three counts of felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, felon in possession of a restricted weapon, unlawful possession of a silencer, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, attempt to elude by vehicle, and recklessly endangering another person. He was also lodged on a parole violation warrant tied to a prior conviction for felon in possession of a weapon.
Due to the remote nighttime location and scope of the investigation, additional deputies were called back on duty to maintain countywide patrol coverage. A separate burglary report in Florence was later determined to be mental-health related, with no arrest made.
