Eugene, OR – Lane County deputies arrested several allegedly impaired and reckless drivers during a series of weekend incidents across Pleasant Hill, Eugene, Creswell, and Springfield, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say deputies—despite lacking a dedicated traffic or DUI enforcement unit—remain committed to keeping local roads safe. Over the weekend, multiple arrests were made for driving under the influence and reckless behavior that could have ended in tragedy.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the first case occurred around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 3, when deputies responded to a hit-and-run on Wheeler Road in Pleasant Hill. A vehicle reportedly struck a power pole and mailboxes before fleeing. Deputies later arrested Ronald Allen Sprague, 66, of Pleasant Hill, for DUII and related charges.

Later that evening in Eugene, deputies arrested Sarah Elizabeth Sabado, 50, of Woodburn, after observing her allegedly texting and driving erratically near Franklin Boulevard and Agate Street.

Early Saturday, October 5, Angus Waylon White, 21, was arrested east of Cottage Grove following a single-vehicle crash that injured a passenger. Deputies say evidence showed reckless driving led to the crash.

Throughout the weekend, four more arrests followed—including Gunner Matthew Hendrix, 22, of Eugene; Matthew Adam Swearingen, 42, of Creswell; McKenzie Kay Mazurek, 30, of Creswell; and Kyle Kenneth Egbert, 33, of Springfield—all facing DUII or reckless driving charges.

Deputies remind drivers to plan safe rides, avoid impaired driving, and always wear seatbelts as fall travel increases across Lane County.
