Springfield, OR – Authorities in Lane County are detailing a violent overnight assault that left a woman hospitalized early Monday, after deputies say the suspect fled the scene before later being located at a parole office in Eugene.
According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Springfield Police responded around 3:30 a.m. Monday to a business on 42nd Street in Springfield, where an injured woman sought help after allegedly being beaten. The victim was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Deputies said the assault allegedly began at Hayden Bridge Boat Landing and continued inside a vehicle as the suspect—identified by law enforcement as a 39-year-old man from Drain—allegedly drove around the area with the victim. The woman eventually escaped and ran into the business for safety. Authorities noted she also had an active restraining order against the suspect.
Law enforcement agencies searched throughout the morning and afternoon for the suspect’s vehicle but were unable to locate it. That evening, the suspect allegedly arrived at the Lane County Parole & Probation Office in Eugene, where he was detained and deputies responded.
Following further investigation, deputies arrested the man on multiple felony charges, including second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree kidnapping, coercion, and violation of a restraining order. Authorities also said he had previously failed to comply with a sentence related to unlawful possession of methamphetamine, and that sentence was activated upon booking.
The sheriff’s office thanked Springfield Police for their assistance in the case.
