Goshen, OR – A barricaded man was arrested Tuesday morning in Goshen after a 90-minute standoff that ended with police deploying a K9, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 10 a.m. on February 3 to a home in the 33900 block of W. Peebles Road to serve a restraining order to Jason Speed McLaughlin, 53, who was ordered by the court to leave the property. Deputies said McLaughlin refused to exit and armed himself with a knife.
According to the sheriff’s office, a crisis negotiation team attempted to de-escalate the situation through open communication, but McLaughlin allegedly threw a large piece of broken glass at a sergeant. After continued refusal to cooperate, a drone was used to monitor the scene, and a Eugene Police K9 unit was deployed to assist.
Authorities say McLaughlin was eventually taken into custody after resisting both deputies and the K9. He was transported to a hospital for evaluation before being booked into the Lane County Jail.
McLaughlin faces multiple charges, including violation of a restraining order, menacing, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest, and interfering with a police animal. Deputies later learned he had allegedly harassed a resident and injured a puppy at the same property, leading to additional harassment and animal abuse charges.
Officials thanked the Eugene Police Department and Lane County Parole & Probation for their assistance.
