Eugene, OR – A late-night crash east of Crow turned into a dramatic rescue early Saturday as a Lane County Sheriff’s deputy and a nearby resident pulled an injured passenger from a burning vehicle, authorities said.

According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 1 a.m. on December 21 to a single-vehicle crash in the 26400 block of Crow Road. When a deputy arrived, the car was already down a 20-foot ravine and engulfed in flames. The driver and passenger were trapped dangerously close to the fire.

The deputy climbed down the muddy embankment with the help of a nearby resident. Together, they managed to pull the injured passenger to safety. Both occupants were later taken to a local hospital by medics.

Investigators said the driver, Tamika Rose Luttrell, 18, of Harrisburg, allegedly lost control while trying to pass another vehicle on a corner in a no-passing zone. The vehicle struck a tree, rolled down the embankment, and caught fire. Luttrell was arrested for Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Assault in the Fourth Degree.

Authorities credited Lane Fire Authority and local residents for their quick response that prevented further tragedy.
