Lane County, OR – Deputies in Lane County arrested a 67-year-old man late Monday night after an alleged assault west of Eugene, with help from a sheriff’s K9.

According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 11 p.m. on November 3 to a residence in the 89000 block of Green Hill Road for reports of an assault. When deputies arrived, they learned that the suspect, identified as Michael Anthony Smith, had allegedly injured and strangled a victim on the property before fleeing the scene.

A sheriff’s sergeant deployed K9 Hektor, who quickly tracked Smith to a trailer on the same property. Deputies located and arrested Smith without incident. He was later booked into the Lane County Jail on charges of Assault in the Fourth Degree and Strangulation, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities have not released additional details about the victim’s condition. The sheriff’s office credited K9 Hektor and responding deputies for the swift apprehension.
