Lane County, Oregon – A 55-year-old woman was lodged in jail Wednesday after extradition in a 2019 animal neglect case involving 61 horses.
According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies executed a search warrant in October 2019 at a property in the 33000 block of Camas Swale Road while investigating reports of ongoing animal abuse. Lane County Animal Services and the Oregon Humane Society assisted in the operation.
Officials said a total of 61 horses were removed from the property after evaluation by a licensed veterinarian. Many of the animals were described as emaciated and malnourished. Several horse carcasses were also found on the property, and some rescued animals later died.
Following the investigation, Gwenyth Ellen Davies, 55, formerly of Creswell, was arrested and charged with Animal Neglect in the Second Degree, a felony. Authorities said she later pleaded guilty to 11 counts and was sentenced to probation and ordered to pay restitution.
According to the sheriff’s office, Davies allegedly failed to comply and disappeared. In 2023, the Lane County Circuit Court issued an extraditable warrant for her arrest.
In January 2026, Davies was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department after re-entering the United States at a port of entry in the Los Angeles area. Extradition was approved by the Oregon governor.
On Wednesday, February 12, 2026, she was lodged at the Lane County Jail on the outstanding warrant.
Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation and extradition efforts.
