Cottage Grove, OR – A tense armed barricade situation in Cottage Grove ended peacefully Sunday after hours of negotiation, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said deputies were serving a court-ordered eviction around 10 a.m. Sunday at a residence on the 800 block of South 6th Street when a man inside made threatening remarks. Deputies backed away and requested support.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Crisis Negotiation Team responded to speak with the subject, who refused to exit the home. Due to the man’s threatening statements and reported possession of numerous firearms, the Lane County Sheriff’s Special Response Team deployed armored rescue vehicles to evacuate neighbors and provide safety for deputies.

After several hours, negotiators convinced the man to surrender. He was taken into custody without incident and transported for a mental health evaluation.

The sheriff’s office credited the Cottage Grove Police Department, Coburg Police Department, Oregon State Police, and FBI for their assistance in resolving the incident.

No injuries were reported, and authorities said the response helped prevent a potentially dangerous escalation.
