Columbia, SC – The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for portions of east-central Georgia and central South Carolina, in effect until 7 p.m. EST Saturday.
According to the NWS, northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, could create hazardous conditions on area lakes, particularly for small watercraft.
Boaters are advised to exercise caution as strong winds and rough waves may increase the risk of capsizing. Officials recommend securing any lightweight outdoor objects that could be blown away.
Affected areas include:
- Georgia: Lincoln, McDuffie, Columbia, Richmond, and Burke counties
- South Carolina: Chesterfield, McCormick, Newberry, Fairfield, Kershaw, Edgefield, Saluda, Lexington, Richland, Lee, Aiken, Sumter, Barnwell, Calhoun, Clarendon, Bamberg, and parts of Lancaster and Orangeburg counties
