Lake Villa, Illinois – Three juveniles were hospitalized after allegedly fleeing in a stolen vehicle and crashing near Route 59 late Friday, prompting an ongoing investigation.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Villa police issued a regional broadcast around 11:50 p.m. Friday regarding a vehicle reported stolen that had last been seen near Route 59 and Grass Lake Road.

Shortly after midnight Saturday, a Lake County sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle in a subdivision southwest of Grass Lake Road and Route 59. Authorities said the driver allegedly fled northbound on Route 59 before turning east onto Grass Lake Road. The deputy turned to pursue but discontinued the attempt near Grass Lake Road and Painted Lake Boulevard.

Officials said the deputy later observed a flash in the distance. The stolen vehicle had crashed near Grass Lake Road and Deep Lake Road in Lake Villa.

Sheriff’s deputies, Lake Villa police officers and members of the Lake Villa Fire Protection District responded to the scene. All three juveniles were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Due to the circumstances of the crash, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team to conduct the investigation. The Lake Villa Police Department continues investigating the stolen vehicle case.

Criminal charges against the three juveniles are pending.
