Reno, NV – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect across northern Nevada and eastern California until 4 p.m. Sunday, with significant snow and hazardous conditions expected.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will range from 1 to 5 inches in most areas, while higher elevations, such as the Carson Range and Alpine County, could see up to 10 inches. Wind gusts may reach 35 mph, with ridge winds topping 50 mph. Mono County could experience accumulations of up to 12 inches above 7,000 feet.
Travel in affected areas, including Reno, Carson City, and Lake Tahoe, could become difficult. Highways 395 and 95 are at risk for delays due to snow and low visibility. Wind chill values could drop as low as 15 degrees below zero in the backcountry.
Residents are advised to slow down, carry emergency supplies, and check road conditions via 511 services before traveling. Snow bands may cause localized variances in accumulations, making preparedness critical.
The advisory highlights the potential for further snowfall depending on storm developments, especially in areas like Virginia City, Truckee, and Mammoth Lakes. Use caution and avoid unnecessary travel during this weather event.
