Marquette, MI – A cold, steady wind is sweeping over Lake Superior this morning as bands of lake-effect snow continue to roll through the Upper Peninsula. Plows are already working the main routes, and drivers are urged to slow down as snow squalls reduce visibility from Marquette to Gwinn.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through midmorning for Marquette County, where 2 to 4 inches of fresh snow are expected. Some localized areas along Big Bay and the higher terrain east of the city could pick up more. Gusts up to 30 mph are adding to the slick conditions, especially on stretches of US-41 and M-28, where visibility can drop within minutes.

Snow showers will continue on and off through Saturday, then strengthen again Sunday as a broader low-pressure system tracks across the Great Lakes. That next round could bring another 4 to 6 inches to the central U.P., setting up a snowy start to the first week of December.

Highs hover in the upper 20s to near 30°F through Monday before dipping into the teens at night. By Tuesday, colder Arctic air may push across the region, bringing a more pronounced December chill and a renewed chance for light snow through Thursday.

Plan extra time for post-Thanksgiving travel this weekend, especially near the lakeshore. Roads will stay slick, and blowing snow may linger even after skies briefly clear.
