South Bend, IN – Northern Indiana will transition from mild and rainy conditions to its first accumulating snow event of the season late Sunday into Monday morning.
According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, temperatures will remain mild through Saturday, with highs in the upper 50s to mid-60s today and 50s on Saturday. Scattered rain showers will continue through the weekend before a strong cold front moves in Sunday. As temperatures fall into the 30s and low 40s, rain will transition to snow across much of the region Sunday night.
Forecasters expect the best chance for accumulating snow west of I-69 and near Lake Michigan, where lake-effect snow bands could bring slick roads and travel delays for the Monday morning commute.
By Monday, highs will only reach the upper 30s to near 40°F, marking the start of a colder pattern that will linger into next week. The weather service advises drivers to monitor forecasts closely, as road conditions could deteriorate quickly Sunday night.
This system will mark a sharp transition from fall to early winter conditions across northern Indiana.
