Milwaukee, Wis. – Storms and steady rainfall are expected across southern Wisconsin on Wednesday as a cold front pushes through the state, bringing the best chances for downpours from sunrise through early evening. While severe weather is not anticipated, residents should be prepared for heavy bursts of rain and occasional lightning.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, showers could begin before dawn in parts of central and southern Wisconsin, with the heaviest rain likely along and north of U.S. 151. Rain chances peak between late morning and the evening commute, when most cities from Madison to Milwaukee will see a 70 to 80 percent chance of precipitation.
Drivers along I-94 and I-43 may encounter ponding on roadways during the afternoon, and brief heavy rainfall could reduce visibility at times. Lightning remains a concern, with the NWS urging caution for those working or recreating outdoors.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor plans, allow extra time for travel, and avoid standing under trees or near open fields during lightning. Conditions should gradually improve overnight into Thursday morning, though scattered showers may linger.
