Cleveland, OH – Hazardous marine conditions are developing on Lake Erie today and tonight, as a cold front sweeps across Northern Ohio, according to the US National Weather Service Cleveland. Forecasters warn of strong winds, high waves, and fluctuating water levels, prompting multiple advisories for the region.
A Gale Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Monday through 1 a.m. Tuesday, with winds up to 35 knots and wave heights reaching 7 to 8 feet in some areas. A Low Water Advisory remains active for the lake’s western basin from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, where water levels may temporarily drop, increasing navigational hazards. A Small Craft Advisory also continues eastward through Tuesday.
According to the weather service, southwest winds will shift west-northwest this afternoon and evening as the front passes, with peak conditions expected midday through tonight. Boaters and mariners are urged to avoid the water and secure vessels along the Lake Erie shore.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve Tuesday as winds subside and high pressure builds into the region.
