Cleveland, Ohio – Boaters and beachgoers across northern Ohio are facing dangerous conditions on Lake Erie through Friday morning, as strong northeast winds continue to stir up rough waters and hazardous waves.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Small Craft Advisory and Beach Hazard Statement remain in effect through 10 a.m. Friday for much of the Lake Erie shoreline, including areas from Toledo to Ashtabula. Wind gusts up to 25 mph and wave heights reaching 6 feet are making the lake especially dangerous for swimmers, kayakers, and small vessels.

Communities such as Lorain, Sandusky, and Geneva-on-the-Lake are expected to experience the worst marine conditions. Hazardous rip currents and high surf are likely, especially near breakwalls and harbor entrances. Authorities urge everyone to avoid entering the water and to keep small craft docked until conditions improve.

Inland, the rain will taper off tonight, making way for drier and cooler weather heading into the weekend. High temperatures today range from the upper 60s to mid-70s, with overnight lows dipping into the low 70s along the lakeshore.

Lake conditions are expected to gradually improve by Saturday morning, but additional marine alerts could be issued if winds persist.
