CLEVELAND, Ohio – Showers are set to build across northern Ohio this afternoon, with heavier storms expected to develop by evening as a cold front moves through. The strongest cells are most likely near Lake Erie, where downpours and thunder could impact the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, light rain will spread east early this afternoon before intensifying into a more organized line of storms along the front by late evening. Storm chances will taper off gradually after midnight as the system exits the region.
Cleveland, Lorain, and Sandusky should prepare for locally heavy rain and reduced visibility through late tonight. Drivers along I-90 and Route 2 should expect slick roads and possible ponding during the evening rush. Residents near the lakeshore may also hear periods of thunder as storms peak between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Officials recommend limiting unnecessary evening travel, checking for updates on changing radar trends, and keeping devices charged in case of isolated power outages. Cooler and drier air will settle in behind the front Friday morning.
Showers and storm chances fade overnight, but more advisories could be issued if new cells develop late this evening.
