Cleveland, OH – Much cooler air settles over the region tonight, bringing the first widespread frost threat of the fall season. According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Friday, with temperatures expected to fall into the upper 30s to low 40s, and localized readings as low as 36 degrees in some areas.
The advisory covers northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania, where clear skies and calm winds will allow temperatures to drop quickly overnight. Areas near Cleveland, Ashtabula, Youngstown, and Erie, PA, are most likely to experience frost formation.
According to the weather service, frost could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered. Homeowners are encouraged to bring potted plants indoors, cover garden crops, and disconnect outdoor plumbing to prevent damage. Pet owners should also ensure animals have shelter from the cold.
Daytime highs Thursday will climb into the low 60s, but clear skies will lead to a sharp temperature drop after sunset. Conditions are expected to moderate slightly into the weekend, though additional frost advisories remain possible if skies stay clear.
