Cleveland, OH – The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued multiple marine advisories for Lake Erie, warning of gale-force winds, rough waves, and unusually low water levels through Wednesday night, October 22.

A Gale Warning will take effect from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. EDT Wednesday for nearshore and open waters from The Islands to Vermilion, Ohio, as west winds reach 35 knots with gusts up to 40 knots. Waves are expected to build between 3 and 8 feet, creating hazardous conditions for all vessels.

Additionally, a Low Water Advisory begins 10 p.m. Tuesday and continues through 11 p.m. Wednesday. Forecasters say strong west to southwest winds will push water eastward, causing levels to drop below the critical mark of -1 inch above low water datum, particularly near Maumee Bay and The Islands.

A Small Craft Advisory also remains in effect for portions of western Lake Erie, where waves of 2 to 5 feet and sustained winds up to 30 knots will challenge smaller boats.

The NWS urges mariners to remain in port, secure their vessels, and avoid shallow navigation channels due to both hazardous waves and falling water levels.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve late Wednesday night as winds diminish and lake levels begin to recover.
