Buffalo, NY – A powerful winter storm is sweeping across western and central New York, bringing heavy snow, icy conditions, and strong winds. The National Weather Service has issued multiple winter weather advisories and warnings, affecting several counties through Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie counties remain under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 a.m. Friday, with 4 to 8 inches of snow expected, along with ice accumulations of one-tenth of an inch. Winds could gust up to 45 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions and the potential for power outages.

In Oswego County, a Lake Effect Snow Warning is in effect from 4 p.m. Thursday to 1 a.m. Saturday, with heavy snowfall expected to total 8 to 16 inches in the hardest-hit areas. Wind gusts up to 45 mph will further complicate travel.

Jefferson and Lewis counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 p.m. Thursday, with 1 to 3 inches of snow and sleet accumulation and additional ice expected.

Wayne County will also see significant snowfall, with a Winter Weather Advisory from 4 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday, forecasting 4 to 9 inches of snow and gusty winds.

Motorists should prepare for difficult travel conditions, especially during the morning and evening commutes. Residents are advised to drive cautiously, monitor weather updates, and report snowfall totals via social media or the National Weather Service website.
