Buffalo, NY – A significant winter storm is set to blanket Western and Central New York with heavy snow beginning Tuesday evening. Higher terrain areas could see accumulations of up to 9 inches by Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday for counties including Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Southern Erie, and Allegany. Northern counties such as Niagara, Monroe, and Orleans may receive up to 7 inches, with wind gusts reaching 40 mph.

Wayne and Northern Cayuga counties face an extended advisory lasting until early Thursday morning, with 8 inches of lake-effect snow possible. The hazardous conditions are expected to impact both the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.

Drivers should anticipate snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and drifting snow in open areas. Officials urge residents to use caution, reduce travel speeds, and monitor updates for road conditions.

Preparedness actions include ensuring vehicles are winter-ready, keeping emergency kits on hand, and planning extra travel time. Residents are encouraged to report snow accumulations through official channels or social media platforms.
