Hermitage, PA – The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for Mercer and Venango Counties in northwestern Pennsylvania, remaining in effect until 7 p.m. Friday evening.
According to the weather service, additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected today, bringing storm totals between 4 and 9 inches in some areas. The heaviest snow bands will affect Hermitage, Grove City, Sharon, Franklin, and Oil City, where visibility may drop suddenly at times.
Forecasters warn that road conditions will be slick and hazardous, particularly on bridges and overpasses, with the Friday morning and evening commutes expected to be impacted. Drivers are urged to slow down, increase following distance, and prepare for sudden visibility changes due to bursts of heavy snow.
“If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency,” the NWS advised. Motorists can check the latest travel conditions by calling 511.
Snow is expected to taper off this evening as winds shift and drier air moves into the region, but roads may remain icy and snow-covered overnight.
