Gaylord, MI – A sharp cold front moving into the Great Lakes region this weekend may bring the first significant lake effect snow of the season to parts of northern Michigan, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord.
Forecasters say snow showers could begin Saturday night and persist through Monday, with accumulating snowfall and hazardous travel possible in areas favored by lake effect bands. The highest snow totals are expected in the traditional lake effect zones along northern and northwestern Lower Michigan, though the exact location and amounts remain uncertain.
The Weather Service noted that wind direction changes could shift snow band placement and intensity, and warm ground temperatures may initially limit accumulation. However, as colder air settles in, roads and surfaces could become slick — especially during the overnight and early morning hours.
Residents and travelers are advised to monitor updated forecasts and use caution if driving across the region late this weekend into early next week.
