South Haven, MI – The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Van Buren County, in effect from 3 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday, as lake effect snow begins moving inland from Lake Michigan.
Forecasters expect 2 to 5 inches of accumulation, with visibility and road conditions changing rapidly across short distances. The heaviest snow bands are likely near South Haven and adjacent lakeshore communities late this afternoon and evening.
According to the NWS, temperatures will fall into the 20s overnight, causing any melted snow or slush to refreeze and create icy spots on untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots. Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution, particularly along I-196 and M-140, where snow squalls may reduce visibility to near zero at times.
The advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m. Monday, though slick travel conditions could persist into the Monday morning commute as residual ice and snow remain on roads.
