Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan remains under a winter storm warning through Monday morning as lake-effect snow continues to blanket the region. Drivers should prepare for treacherous travel conditions and rapidly changing visibility on key routes.
The National Weather Service predicts that additional snowfall could reach 4 to 12 inches in localized areas by early Monday. Snow bands will intensify at times, producing accumulation rates of up to 2 inches per hour. Roads, including those near Gaylord, will likely be snow-covered and slick, with reduced visibility in the heaviest snow bands.
After the winter storm warning expires Monday, snow showers will persist through midweek. Monday’s forecast includes a 50% chance of snow during the day, with a high near 33°F and calm winds. Overnight lows will dip into the teens, creating icy patches on untreated roadways.
Tuesday will bring a resurgence of snow showers with an 80% chance of accumulation and highs near 30°F. Winds may pick up slightly, increasing the risk of drifting snow in open areas. Snow is expected to taper off by Thursday, but lingering flurries and cold temperatures will keep roads hazardous.
Officials advise residents to limit unnecessary travel and keep emergency kits in their vehicles. Those heading out should allow extra time and drive cautiously to avoid accidents. The region’s extended forecast shows little relief, with highs remaining below freezing and lows plummeting into the teens throughout the week.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions through local alerts and plan ahead as Northern Michigan braces for continuous winter weather.
