CLEVELAND, OH – The National Weather Service Cleveland warns that significant lake effect snow is possible Wednesday night through Friday, potentially affecting Thanksgiving travel across northern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania.

According to forecasters, rain will change to snow on Wednesday as a cold front moves through the region, followed by gusty west winds and plunging temperatures.

The highest snow totals are expected in lake effect areas east of Cleveland, where probabilities of 6 inches or more range from 50–90%, especially near Lake Erie and into northwestern Pennsylvania.

Travelers should prepare for slick, snow-covered roads and rapidly changing visibility in heavier snow bands. Wind chills will dip into the teens, with gusts of 30–35 mph expected Wednesday and Thursday.

The NWS advises that Monday will likely be the best travel day of the week, with dry conditions and highs in the upper 40s to mid-50s.
