BUFFALO, N.Y. — Lake-effect snow will continue across parts of western and north-central New York through tonight, with accumulations of up to 4 inches expected in the most persistent bands, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow off Lake Erie will shift between the Buffalo Southtowns and the Boston Hills during the day before weakening and lifting north tonight. Off Lake Ontario, lake-effect snow will remain focused over the Tug Hill region, with minor north-to-south movement through the evening.

Most areas within the lake-effect bands can expect 1 to 4 inches of snow, while areas outside the bands will see lighter totals. Wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph will create blowing and drifting snow, occasionally reducing visibility to near zero in heavier bands.

Travel may become hazardous at times due to snow-covered roads and rapidly changing conditions. Drivers are urged to use caution, especially when traveling through known lake-effect corridors.

Snow intensity is expected to gradually diminish overnight as bands weaken and shift north.
