Marquette, MI – Lake effect snow and strong winds are set to impact Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula throughout the week, creating hazardous travel conditions and chilly temperatures. Snow showers will begin intensifying Monday and linger until midweek, with wind gusts reaching 50+ mph in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, lake effect snow will move offshore Sunday but return Monday afternoon as a cold front sweeps through the region. Blowing and drifting snow are likely, particularly along US-41 and M-26. Temperatures will stay in the 20s and low 30s, with snow accumulation varying based on elevation and proximity to Lake Superior.
By Tuesday, a clipper system will bring additional moderate snow across the peninsula, with localized accumulations impacting visibility. Snow showers are expected to continue into Wednesday, accompanied by breezy conditions.
The extended forecast shows partly sunny skies returning Thursday and Friday, but temperatures will remain below freezing, keeping roads slick in many areas. Residents are encouraged to prepare for rapidly changing conditions, secure outdoor items, and allow extra time for commutes.
