Gaylord, MI – Lake effect snow will continue across northern Michigan through Thursday, bringing periods of heavy snowfall, reduced visibility, and hazardous travel conditions, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord.

Forecasters say the heaviest snow is expected tonight through Thursday afternoon, especially north of the Mackinac Bridge and across Chippewa County, where accumulations could quickly build on roads.

Snow bands may produce 3 to 6 inches of accumulation in localized areas, along with patchy blowing snow and rapid drops in visibility during bursts of heavier precipitation. The combination of snow and gusty winds could make driving dangerous on highways including I-75 and M-28.

Travelers are urged to use caution, allow extra time for commutes, and remain alert for changing conditions, particularly in open and rural areas where blowing snow may obscure roadways.
