South Bend, IN – Northern Indiana will stay cool, breezy, and at times wet through midweek as lake-enhanced rain showers continue to develop north of U.S. Highway 30, according to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana.

Forecasters say the greatest chances for showers will occur from Tuesday night through Thursday, especially in counties closer to Lake Michigan. Overnight lows will fall into the mid-40s, while daytime highs remain in the upper 40s to low 50s. Winds are expected to stay gusty, occasionally reaching 20–25 mph, adding a brisk chill to the air.

By Friday, conditions will begin to improve with partly cloudy skies and temperatures rising slightly into the mid-50s, followed by a mostly dry Saturday with just a small chance for afternoon showers.

The NWS notes that this pattern is typical of October lake-effect systems, which can bring spotty rainfall and cooler air to northern Indiana and southern Michigan. Residents are advised to keep jackets handy and watch for brief, localized downpours north of U.S. 6.
