Grayslake, IL – A man suspected of burglarizing a tavern in unincorporated Grayslake was apprehended Wednesday with the help of Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and K-9 Duke.
Deputies responded to a burglar alarm at the tavern in the 34200 block of Route 45 around 3:45 a.m. but found no signs of forced entry. Later that morning, the keyholder discovered a burglary had occurred, prompting deputies to review surveillance footage. The suspect, identified as Brendan M. Wilcox, 37, was allegedly seen stealing items while wearing distinctive clothing.
Following footprints in the snow, deputies tracked Wilcox to a nearby apartment complex. When approached, he reportedly fled through a window. Deputy Dwight Arrowood and K-9 Duke tracked him for over a mile, eventually locating him hiding in a wooded area. After Wilcox refused to surrender, Duke was deployed and bit him, leading to his arrest.
Wilcox, who had an active warrant for burglary, was treated for the bite before being booked into the Lake County Jail. He faces burglary, theft, and resisting arrest charges.
Sheriff John D. Idleburg praised the teamwork of deputies and K-9 units in securing the arrest. Wilcox remains in custody awaiting a court hearing.
