Lake County, Indiana Officer Injured in Head-On Pursuit Crash

Lake County, Indiana – A Lake County Sheriff’s Department police officer was injured overnight Wednesday after a head-on crash during a vehicle pursuit, sending three people to the hospital.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, the pursuit began sometime after 6 p.m. Wednesday when a suspect’s vehicle was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. The pursuit ended near 9th Avenue, where the suspect’s vehicle allegedly struck an officer’s patrol car head-on.

The injured officer was transported to an area hospital and is being treated for multiple cuts and other injuries. Officials said the officer is expected to recover.

Authorities said two people inside the suspect’s vehicle were also hospitalized. The driver was placed in custody and taken to a hospital for medical evaluation. A passenger in the vehicle had to be extricated by fire personnel before being transported to the hospital.

The sheriff’s department did not release details on what led to the pursuit or whether charges have been filed. Officials said an investigation into the incident remains ongoing, and no additional information is being released at this time.

The crash occurred during evening hours when traffic remains active in parts of Lake County, an area frequently traveled by commuters and late-shift workers.

No additional injuries were reported, and authorities have not disclosed whether body camera or dash camera footage is part of the investigation.
