Crown Point, IN – A Gary man is facing charges after allegedly exposing himself to an Uber driver while being taken to Lake County Community Corrections, according to Indiana State Police.
Investigators say the incident happened on October 6, when a female Uber driver picked up Isaiah Malik Johnson, 22, from Arizona Street in Gary for a scheduled trip to the Lake County Community Corrections Kimbrough Center in Crown Point. During the ride, Johnson allegedly fondled himself and made suggestive remarks toward the driver.
The driver reportedly told the passenger to exit her vehicle before completing the trip and immediately reported the incident to staff at the Kimbrough Center — the very facility Johnson was headed to. Detectives noted the irony that the alleged offense occurred en route to a correctional facility.
On October 9, detectives interviewed Johnson, who admitted asking the driver for her phone number but denied further allegations. Following the investigation, Johnson was booked into the Lake County Jail on one count of Indecent Exposure, a Class C misdemeanor.
The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case for formal charges. Police reminded the public that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
