Lake County, IN – Two Shot, One Dead in Hammond Family Dispute Shooting Saturday

Hammond, IN – A family dispute Saturday escalated into a shooting, leaving one person dead and another injured. 

According to Hammond Police Department reports, officers were dispatched to a residence on the 1900 block of Warwick Avenue at around 4:30 AM, following reports of a disturbance. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds. The injured party was rushed to the hospital with a shoulder wound, while the second individual, Charles Stokes, was pronounced dead at the scene. Early findings suggest the incident stemmed from a family argument.

The police are treating this as an isolated incident, reassuring the community there is no ongoing threat. Detective Sergeant Shawn Ford is leading the inquiry, and the Hammond Police Department encourages anyone with information to contact them at (219) 852-2998 as the investigation continues.
