New Chicago, IN – Two men were found dead inside a New Chicago residence Saturday afternoon, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner confirmed the deaths after being called to 216 Huber Blvd. around 4:27 p.m. on September 20. Officials said the family positively identified the victims as Benjamin Scott, 64, and Aaron Onohan, 46, both of New Chicago.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, Scott sustained fatal gunshot wounds. An autopsy determined the manner of death as homicide. His body was examined Monday, September 22, at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point.
In a separate finding, Onohan died from acute cardiac arrest, which investigators determined to be of natural cause. His autopsy was also conducted Monday at the forensic center.
Both men were pronounced deceased at the scene within minutes of each other by coroner investigators. The deaths occurred inside the same residence on Huber Blvd., officials confirmed.
The case involved multiple responding agencies, including the Indiana State Police, New Chicago Police Department, Hobart Fire Department, and New Chicago Fire Department.
Authorities have not released further details on the circumstances leading to the deaths. The investigation remains ongoing.
