Lake County, IN – A busy Friday night for a Lowell-based Indiana State Trooper led to two separate high-speed pursuits along I-94 near Portage, according to a release from the Indiana State Police.
The first chase began around 9:30 p.m., when Trooper Ben Beers attempted to stop a blue and white Yamaha motorcycle traveling at speeds estimated between 130–150 mph. The rider allegedly fled westbound, weaving through traffic before experiencing mechanical issues and stopping near Grant Street in Lake County.
The suspect, identified as Edward Michael Henrikson, 21, of Portage, was arrested and charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, criminal recklessness, and reckless driving. He also lacked a valid motorcycle endorsement or registration.
Later that night, Trooper Beers spotted a white Dodge Charger speeding 106 mph in a 70 zone on I-94 eastbound near Portage. The driver allegedly shut off the car’s lights and reached 130 mph before stopping near the shoulder.
Three adults and two juveniles were detained. Christopher Williams, 20, of Cedar Lake, was charged with felony resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, and minor consumption. Two passengers — Liam McGrath, 20, of Chicago, and Leeya Williams, 19, of Cedar Lake — also face minor consumption charges, with McGrath additionally accused of possessing false identification.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
