Lake Station, IN – A truck driver was killed Monday afternoon following a fiery single-vehicle crash on Interstate 80/94 near Lake Station, according to the Indiana State Police Lowell Post.

The crash occurred around 4:00 p.m. at the 13-mile marker, approximately one mile east of the I-65 interchange. Troopers arriving on scene found a gravel truck that had struck the median wall and overhead signpost, overturning and scattering debris across westbound lanes.

The impact caused the truck to burst into flames, trapping the driver inside. The Lake Station Fire Department extinguished the blaze and confirmed the driver died at the scene. The victim’s name has not yet been released pending identification by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities said both eastbound and westbound lanes were restricted for hours as crews cleared debris and contained burning oil that had drained into the interstate’s sewer system. The Indiana Department of Emergency Management (IDEM) also responded to the scene.

As of 7:00 p.m. Monday, traffic was limited to shoulder travel in both directions near the crash site. The incident remains under investigation by the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team.
